Oil Change For A Chevy Avalanche Is Simple And Quick
The Chevy Avalanche is a heavy duty truck that requires more frequent oil changes, if the truck’s driving on dusty roads or carrying heavy loads. Luckily, the oil change for a Chevy Avalanche is simple and quick for the do-it-yourself maintenance man.
Step1
Lift the Avalanche using a jack and set the truck on jack stands. If you don’t have jack stands, use a set of wheel ramps. Make sure you brace the front tires, so the truck doesn’t roll.
Step2
Pop the hood and take off the oil filler cap and remove the dipstick.
Step3
Gather an oil drip pan, cleaning cloths, new filter, and a 13 mm wrench for an 2007 model, or a 15 mm wrench for earlier models. Slide under the truck.
Step4
Locate the oil drain plug and filter. On an Avalanche, the drain plug is on the rear of the oil pan, facing the back of the truck. Remove the plug with the proper wrench and pull it out quickly. Let the oil drain for 10 to 15 minutes into the drip pan.
Step5
Take off the filter using an oil filter wrench. Check the gasket and threads for damage and dump the extra oil into the drip pan. Clean off any excess oil and replace the filter.
Step6
Put the oil drain plug back in and slide out from under the Avalanche. Add oil to the oil filler and replace the dipstick. Lower the car and start the engine for a minute so that oil pressure builds.
Step7
Turn off the engine and take an oil level reading. If the level isn’t at full, add a bit more oil. Shut the hood.
