Information about Kenworth Trucks

Kenworth is a manufacturer of medium and heavy duty Class 8 trucks based in Kirkland, Washington, a suburb of Seattle. It is a subsidiary of PACCAR, and is also a former manufacturer of transit buses and school buses. The brand claims to maintain an image of high quality, it has won five of six JD Power Awards in 2005 and three of four the most recent poll.

Kenworth has manufacturing plants in Renton, Washington, Chillicothe, Ohio, Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec, Victoria, Australia and Mexicali.

Founded in 1923 by Seattle businessmen Edgar Worthington and Harry Kent (son of Frederick Kent, a partner in the predecessor company, Gersix Motor Company), taking the first three letters of “Kent” and the first five of “Worthington”, the company was born, capitalized with $60,000. The following year the company sold 80 trucks. In 1933 Kenworth became the first truck maker in the United States to switch from gasoline to diesel engines.

Kenworth was the first company to design cab over engine or commonly termed as COE in the year 1957. Some of the most famous models of North American Kenworth are Kenworth T800, Kenworth T600, Kenworth W900 and Kenworth T2000. During the year 2006, Kenworth announced its new models Kenworth T660. The model was based on the previous model of Kenworth T600 having a superior aerodynamics and upgraded styling. Kenworth integrates a complete new outer body package which includes bumper, hood, headlamps, chassis fairings and grill. The Kenworth T660 is set to set a benchmark in terms of high quality and on highway Kenworth trucks, Kenworth maintains its “Best in Class” approach.

The model T800 kenworth is having several version which includes, Kenworth T800SH with a short hood and 113” BBC, kenworth T800H with a high hood and having extra cooling area, but its not bigger than kenworth T800W, T800W Kenworth has a wider hood which is meant for a bigger radiator. These trucks are mostly used for construction and off road purposes and also for special applications. Kenworth’s Australian models assemble at Kenworth’s Bayswater facility at Victoria that is in Australia . The popular and famous models here are Kenworth T904, Kenworth T604, Kenworth T401, Kenworth T350, Kenworth T404, Kenworth C510 and Kenworth K104.
