A number of firms sell old pickup trucks, which are usually targeted at antique collectors and truck enthusiasts. These firms operate websites that contains a detailed list of all old pickup trucks available with the seller. People take great pleasure in owning and maintaining their old pickup trucks. They are great attractions at vintage truck rallies and fairs. However, in some cases it becomes difficult to get replacement parts, as many companies that manufactured pickups are no longer in existenceOld pickup trucks may not have advanced features present in modern day pickup trucks. Heavy Duty Trucks - Consult Before Buying

June 27th, 2008

The first thing that you need to know is what kind of truck would be best for your needs. What kind of loads are you planning to haul?

List of Payload Types:

Gravel (425 , 500 hp or more), Grocery (350 hp or more), Refrigerated (350 hp or more), Dry Goods (350 hp or more), Flat Bed (425 hp or more), Container (425 , 500 hp or more), Car Haulage (425 , 500 hp or more), Garbage (425 , 500 hp or more), Glass (350 hp or more), Furniture (350 hp or more), Livestock (425 , 500 hp or more), Paper (425 , 500 hp or more), Grains / Agriculture (425 , 500 hp or more), Bulk Tanker (500 hp or more)

Distance or Radius:

- City Work (day cab)
- Highway (bunk or double bunk)

You can still use a bunk truck in the city if you can handle the extra length while backing in to tight spots. Bunk trucks usually are equipped with larger engines that can take more of a pounding than smaller engines with lower horse power. Sometimes it is better to pay a little more in fuel (yes even during the fuel crisis) & save in the long run with repairs.

The bigger engines give you more power. The smaller engines give you more fuel mileage but more head ache unless they are brand new. You will not get as much down time for repairs with the bigger engine which will also save you money that would have been lost while your truck was taken out of service.

Are you buying a used truck or a brand new one? This is also a very important question that will be determined by what kind of contract you have or will have. How much money will you be getting paid? The more money that you will make, the better quality of truck that you should purchase. Remember the better quality of truck will be less of a head ache for you in the future.

Where to Find a Good Truck (used):

- Private Sales
- Dealer
- Internet
- Newspapers

You can save a lot of money by purchasing a truck from a private seller. Dealers will be pricey because they have a lot more overhead than the small guy. Small guys also usually have better maintained trucks because they have been operating it personally & usually tend to take better care of their own than a company truck.

The dealers usually by many company trucks or entire fleets that may have been pounded & pounded by company drivers. However some of those trucks can sometimes have been driven by the same company driver who cared for it like it was their own.

Before you purchase any new or used truck figure out how serious you are about becoming an owner-operator. There is a lot of head aches involved in running your own truck & the fuel prices are not getting any better. For some unknown reason diesel is more expensive than gasoline even though diesel is more cost effective to refine. Go figure.

A trucking business can take a lot of time money & freedom away from you but if you love trucking & don’t mind spending the time then it can be a good choice.

Campers For Pickup Trucks

June 22nd, 2008

Pickup truck campers are designed to provide space and equipment for sleeping and simple housekeeping during camping and recreational travel. Campers can either be attached over the pickup’s hold or can be fitted on a trailer. Many of these campers are designed to accommodate five to six people. An awning can be attached to these campers to accommodate more people.

Campers have automatic loading and unloading mechanism, which includes four corner ball screw electric jacks operated with a remote control. Camper mounting process is easy and can be done with the push of a button. The truck is gently steered to slide beneath the camper structure. Electric jacks mount the structure in the right place, which is then secured with the help of clampers and safety latch. Unloading is done by reversing this process.

Camper roofs are made from a combination of foam and marine grade thermoplastic polyolefin to provide maximum strength and protection from extreme weather conditions. The roof offers excellent insulation, easy cleaning, traction, and hail protection. Pickup racks can also be fitted on these roofs for carrying ladders, canoes, or kayaks. Camper body can be made from different materials such as kiln-dried fir or pinewood, lightweight aluminum, or fiberglass.

Campers are designed according to the “center of gravity” theory that shifts the weight of these campers to the center of the pickup. This enables efficient maneuverability at high speeds and helps in negotiating uneven terrain without the risk of vehicle tip-over accidents. Campers are costly and should be insured to avoid financial losses caused due to fire, accidents, or natural calamities.

A number of firms manufacture campers, which are compatible with different types of pickup trucks. Customized campers are also manufactured based on specifications provided by the customer. Customers who find it difficult to assemble and install campers can take help from technicians hired by the manufacturing company.

Expeditor - Hot Shot Trucks

June 20th, 2008

Expeditor or hot shot trucks are typically those used for delivering freight which is time sensitive. Hot shot freight is also often referred to as red-hot or shut-down cargo. There are many industries that use these services and the products that are typically transported range considerably in both size and structure. Hauling this way can be a very demanding job. There are typically no breaks between the pick-up and delivery of the load. Hot shot driving is typically of an emergency nature and does not conform to regular scheduling.

Expeditor-hot shot trucks are very readily available if you are searching for this type of work. These trucks are normally driven by owner/operators and are often leased by carriers. The drivers and/or owners are considered by the IRS to be independent contractors who operate their own business and simply lease their equipment to the expediting company. Some examples of the freight carried include automotive plant shipments which eliminate the need to inventory production parts, medical equipment delivered on an emergency basis and other cargo that is time-sensitive or otherwise considered critical.

The difference between expeditor-hot shot trucks and typical trucks is that conventional trucking normally involves scheduled shipments that are delivered on a regular basis. These deliveries often contain multiple stops and the freight is not considered to be time-critical. Expediting can range in size from one envelope to a complete trailer full of parts. Of course larger trucks will be used for hauling larger items and a wide selection of expeditor-hot shot trucks can be found online within many website listings.

If you are planning to get into the hot shot business, you should consider purchasing a used truck. Used expeditor-hot shot trucks can be found plentifully and can typically save you thousands of dollars over purchasing them new. Used trucks can be very efficient and cost-worthy as long as you know how and where to purchase them. It is recommended that you spend just a little time researching the many manufacturers and models before you begin an actual purchase. Once you have all the information about the used vehicle that you need, you can make an informed decision about whether or not this truck is right for you. Information that you should strive to collect includes price, condition, year/make/model, contact information for the seller and any other information that will help you to decide on your purchase.

Mack Trucks - The Bulldog Is Back And Stronger Than Ever

June 19th, 2008

When your sights laser in on a pugnacious little bulldog blazing down the street, what is the first thought that crosses your mind? Well, if you are semi truck driver, you will leap and yell ‘Hey! That’s Mack!’ Bull Dog is a trademark of Mack Trucks Inc, an old horse in the trucking world. Mack Trucks Inc is known for building heavy-duty trucks that are capable of enduring a punishing terrain and the vagaries of nature.

The journey of Mack Trucks began in 1893 when the Mack brothers, Jack and Augustus, bought over Fallesen & Berry factory. Soon, the Macks started experimenting with various steam and electric motor cars. Inspired by the inventions taking place all around him, Jack envisioned the building of heavy -duty trucks and thus began an eventful journey. The first product from the house of Macks was a bus, which was used by sightseeing concessionaire Harris and McGuire, for eight years before it was converted into a truck. The success of this bus egged the Mack brothers to continue with truck development. However, old Mack trucks were known as ‘Manhattan Trucks’ as the brothers had sought a different name to distinguish the trucks from their other business, viz. their horse-drawn carriages.

In the early 1900s, Mack Trucks became famous as ever-reliable trucks that could easily endure rugged terrains. Soon enough, the brothers engaged in adding new features that would enhance the safety and comfort aspect of the driver. For instance, Mack Truck Inc. were the first truck manufacturers to introduce a constant mesh feature that protected gears from being damaged or stripped by inexperienced drivers.

In 1919, Manhattan Trucks was re-christened as ‘Mack’. Later, in 1922, it adopted bulldog as its corporate logo. As to how a bulldog was chosen as, a symbol of Mack Truck Inc. is an interesting story in itself. Lore at Mack Truck Inc. say that during the First World War, the British government had chosen the sturdy Mack trucks for transporting important war supplies and food requirements to the soldiers on the front. These Mack trucks, with their blunt-nosed hood, resembled a bulldog. Besides, the Mack trucks were proving as tenacious as bulldogs. These qualities reminded the British soldiers of their official mascot the ‘British Bulldog’. In fact, when faced with a truck problem, the soldier would often say, “Aye, send in the Mack Bulldogs!” Now, Mack Truck Inc. viewed this as a matter of pride and hence they adopted the bulldog as a corporate symbol to represent all the future generation of Mack trucks.

Since then, Mack trucks have undertaken important missions of national and international importance. For instance, they played an important in the trans-continental convoy conducted by the US Army, which highlighted the need for a national highway system. Similarly, Mack Truck Inc. played a major role in the building of the Boulder dam. It also played an important role in the Second World War. Mack trucks found themselves adorning the role of prime movers, personnel carriers, wrecker trucks, tank transporters, and more.

Concrete Mixer Trucks - Work in Motion

June 18th, 2008

Concrete mixer trucks are also commonly referred to as cement mixers. These trucks are used to combine cement, sand and/or gravel and water to form concrete. The mixture is combined using a revolving drum. The alternative to these trucks is to mix concrete or cement by hand in a wheelbarrow. However for larger jobs particularly those within the construction industry, concrete or cement mixers are a much better solution.

Using these trucks, construction workers can mix and distribute concrete or cement to exactly the spot where they need it. Ford, Volvo, Peterbilt, Kenworth and other major truck manufacturers all produce concrete mixer trucks. If you have a preference of manufacturer, as many do, then you should be able to find a truck produced by your favorite manufacturer just as you would with larger semi trucks.

Concrete mixer trucks are designed to work in-transit. This simply means that while the truck is traveling to its destination, the concrete is being mixed. They are charged with dry materials and water and the concrete is combined during transport. There are more modern versions however, which are loaded with ready mixed concrete. The truck will maintain the cements liquid state through the agitation of the drum. The interior of the drum is fitted with a spiral blade. While it rotates in one direction, the concrete is mixed. When it rotates in the other direction however, the concrete is discharged or forced out of the drum.

Concrete mixer trucks can be found and purchased in many styles, colors and overall designs. While there are many manufacturers who turn out new models each year, there are those who prefer to purchase used versions to save money, if for no other reason. Used trucks can be found and purchased online easily when you know where to look. If you are searching for a cement truck, or any other truck model for that matter, you should know that the internet provides an astounding search function that will allow you to view thousands of available models simultaneously. This gives you the option to save time with your search and you also get the opportunity to save money when you choose to purchase your truck used. If you do prefer a newer model, you can find those online as well. No matter what manufacturer you prefer or what model you are looking for, be sure to research your options before you purchase. If saving money is an issue, then certainly take the time to locate and research the many used cement trucks that may be available to you.
